Picnic view
August 10, 2026
Hello Friend!
Have you ever used those painted YouTube pics with background music? You click on them and they can run for hours showing the same scene. There are lots of options, from a cafe in Paris to a rainy night in a cozy cabin. And the ones I like best play some sort of soft jazz that fills the room with a little bit of sound but doesn't distract. Apparently there's a whole group of people who create these pics, and I suppose they make bucks when a user stops on their "artwork".
The pics are always filled with cups of steaming coffee and sweet things half eaten on plates, as though the folks using the room have just stepped away. Soft couches, (so) many pillows, and if it's an outside view there are dancing butterflies and plants waving in the breeze.
The inside venues are often filled with books and a roaring fireplace. Jon and I always laugh at how they paint candles with cozy dancing flames on all the bookshelves - worst fire hazard ever! My dog Harper never minds though, she knows that when we put one of these soft playing music channels on we're probably going to be gone for a couple of hours and she'll immediately get comfy and close her eyes for a long nap. She's such a good girl!

Anyway, I was sitting at my computer the other day and thought I'd find some relaxing jazz to work by. As I browsed through the options I landed on a great pic of a summer picnic table loaded with flowers, iced tea and fresh lemons. I loved it. As I got ready to jump into my work it crossed my mind to wonder why I liked that particular scene. So I stared at it for a minute, and yep, I knew right away why it appealed to me.
First of all, the summer afternoon looks so inviting. Sunny, lots of green grass, and just enough shade to keep things comfy. The view includes a wooden fence and an empty field beyond that. Peaceful and private. And the stepping stones that lead to that back fence are meandering, no straight lines. I'm such a cottage garden girl, I love that little bit of messy. The picnic table is rough, weathered, well used. Not one of those fancy tables you have to be careful of spilling something on. This table looks more likely to have someone's initials carved in it from many past summer picnics. And the towel, the tea brewing in a ginormous mason jar, the fresh cut lemons. This really appeals to my Southern roots that require all outdoor get togethers must include sweet tea.

To finish it all off, the vase of garden flowers and the sunhat make me think that a fellow gardener is just out of sight. Geez, I don't even wear hats, but I love the way they look!
Anyway, the whole thing made me feel like taking a deep breath and slowing down just a little bit. Very nice and much needed. I hope you can find a moment on this Monday to relax for a minute, to take a break from whatever busy thing you're in the middle of and just enjoy the view. Happy summer!
