Spring?
April 13, 2026
Hello Friend!
It's been a crazy weather week. Spring here is often a long process and can definitely be a roller coaster adventure. For those of you who've ever lived in the Midwest, you know just what I mean.
For example, last Monday night it snowed. On Tuesday morning we all woke up to bitter temps and white on the ground...again. I had to grab my heavy winter coat and grumbled all day as I ran errands. Then yesterday, Sunday, we had summer weather with highs hitting 80 degrees. Sigh. I had to rummage around in my closet for one of the short sleeved shirts I'd packed away last October. It's so confusing.
As a gardener I've spent many days this past week wandering my flower beds and worrying about my perennials. Did they survive the long, frigid winter? Are they pushing through the soil too soon? And of course, the question I ask myself every Spring - where the heck did I plant everything?
Every Fall I promise myself that I'll take detailed pics of all my garden areas so I'll know exactly where to look for my sprouting plants in the Spring. But then I don't.
For some reason, when I look at everything tall and green and blooming it just seems so obvious. Of course that's where I planted things!
But then the snow and rain and wind happens, and because my perennials are still very young in my new gardens, the stalks and leaves completely disappear and I haven't a clue.
And so, as Sherlock would say, the game is afoot. I'm left with the mystery of where things might be. I'm sure my neighbors wonder what the heck I'm doing as I make many slow turns around the garden, leaning over and staring at the dirt.
Fortunately the rain and warm temps will help, and in a few days I should know what's coming back for another summer season. I'm so ready for green and growing! I hope that wherever you're at, you have the pleasure of a garden, or even just a pot of flowers. They're good for the soul.
Happy Spring!!
