A Little Bird Told Me
January 26, 2026
Hello Friend!
My daughter Amanda knows how much I enjoy feeding my birds, so she gifted me with a really beautiful stained glass feeder. I love it! I hung it just outside my office window away from my other feeders so the wrens and bluebirds could find it without having to compete. And I was excited about being able to peek over my computer screen and see the birds up close!
Sure enough, a few days later I heard a wren calling me. Wrens are tiny little things with big voices, and a real attitude. Although they measure just a few inches long, these little guys strut around like they own the place. I love to watch them flit around and make a fuss. So when I heard the warbling of a wren I tiptoed to the window and peeked out.

At first the wren just sat on the railing and stared up at the feeder, giving it a good long look. Then he flew around it a bit, landing on the top, finally finding the perch where he could comfortably sit and nibble the treats inside. But after a few bites he started doing such a silly thing, I had to roll my eyes. He decided the better way to eat was to fly UP from the porch rail to the teeny little hole at the bottom of the feeder, designed to let water drain out, and poke out the treats with his long beak. I suppose this might be an instinctive way for wrens to find food, but good grief it was SO MUCH HARDER. I had to shake my head.
But hey, don't we sometimes do this same thing? We make a problem bigger than it is, or we add stress to our day by making a situation more complicated than it needs to be. Or if you're like me, you feel as though you have to solve problems yourself instead of tapping in to the friends, family and experts all around you. Sheesh. When things get crazy let's remember to breathe, stay calm, and see if you can find a friend to help!
